I love doing crafts that you can keep and decorate with each year. These trees make such cute Valentine’s Day decor. They’re inexpensive and easy to make! They also look great next to a personalized wine bottle, of course.
Things you’ll need –
- Styrofoam cones
- Foam or felt
- Hot glue (not pictured)
Begin by wrapping the first section of twine as shown above.
Continue to wrap the twine around the styrofoam cone. You’ll want to hide the first section so it stays tight. You won’t need any glue for this part! The twine will stick to the cone and stay perfectly.
Wrap each cone until the twine completely covers them. When you reach the bottom, either glue or tape the last piece of twine to the bottom of the cone.
Here’s the hard part. As you can see from above one cone of mine has way too much glue! Use the hot glue sparingly! That’s the best advice I can give. Also go slowly. Use a tiny amount of glue on short sections of twine as you slowly twirl it into a circle to cover the top. Be patient, this is definitely the hardest part!
Now you can either cut your own hearts from felt or foam, or you can be lazy like me, and buy them pre-made as I did. Mine even came with sticky sections on the back so I easily affixed them to my trees – no hot glue required!
Enjoy your Valentine’s Day decorations! As it’s Wine Wednesday, I’m now off to drink a glass of wine. (I’m trying to get enough corks to make a great craft…)
